What is EtherPeek ?

EtherPeek can tell you a great deal about what is happening on the network and point out telltale problems - often before they become serious issues impacting productivity. For example, if your TCP/IP sessions are "hanging", EtherPeek can show you which system sent the last packet, and which system failed to respond. If you are experiencing slow screen updates, EtherPeek can display delta time stamps and show which system is waiting for packets, and which system is slow to respond. EtherPeek can show broadcast or multicast storms, packet errors, and whether network devices are successfully communicating. By capturing and displaying all traffic on an Ethernet wire, or some selected subset of the traffic, you will get information that is otherwise unavailable, resulting in more efficient troubleshooting and better overall LAN performance.

EtherPeek allows the systems or network manager to identify problems properly and quickly on the network and isolate systems or services that need remedy.

EtherPeek NX is the first protocol analyzer to offer both expert diagnostics and frame decoding in real time, during capture. EtherPeek NX has been carefully designed to help IT Professionals analyze and diagnose increasingly diverse volumes of network data, providing precise, contemporary analysis of the problems facing today's networks.
 
Traffic capture can be customized with triggers, alarms, and filters. Triggers, which are used to start and stop packet capturing, can be set off by a time event or by network traffic. Alarms warn you of abnormalities in LAN activity, such as bottlenecks, when traffic deviates from a specified limit. The filtering controls are extremely flexible and easy to use. We could quickly filter a protocol type, say TCP/IP, by simply clicking a check box. To create a filter, we double-clicked the protocol to use it as a template, then edited the filter name and the address/port information. After selecting our new filter, our capture log filled with only TCP packets.
 
Simple filters consist of just the traffic source and destination specified by MAC or the network-layer address, protocols that rest on the network layer (and up), or port numbers. An advanced option lets you build more complex filters through logic statements and filtering options. Information like downloaded HTTP or FTP files can be displayed
